Registration renewal & fees
Car Registration Renewal in Abu Dhabi: TAMM Steps and Fees
Renew an Abu Dhabi car registration on TAMM: AED 350 renewal, ADNOC test and retest fees, the three-year new-car exemption and what to clear first.
Abu Dhabi registrations are renewed with the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility) through TAMM, the emirate's government services platform. Before you apply, the car must be insured and, unless it is still within its new-vehicle exemption, pass a technical inspection. You then sign in with UAE PASS, submit the request and pay.
Open TAMM: Renew Vehicle Registration
TAMM is the official channel. We are an independent guide and cannot submit the application for you.
Primary sources checked: 18 October 2026. Renewal rules and fees come from TAMM's Renew Vehicle Registration service and the Abu Dhabi Mobility licensing directory. Test fees come from ADNOC Distribution's vehicle inspection page, which shows no update date.
Before you apply
- Insure the car. TAMM lists insurance as a condition to complete before applying.
- Pass the technical inspection, if required. TAMM also lists the inspection as a condition to complete first.
- Clear restrictions. TAMM requires any restrictions on the vehicle record to be cleared. Check the record in TAMM before paying for a test, so a block does not stop you later.
- Have your Emirates ID and UAE PASS ready. TAMM lists the original Emirates ID as the required document. Abu Dhabi Mobility says its online services need UAE PASS and an active traffic file.
Renew on TAMM
- Sign in with UAE PASS, or visit a service centre.
- Submit the Renew Vehicle Registration application with the requested documents.
- Pay the fees.
- Receive the renewed registration.
TAMM estimates six minutes for the service. Its terms say the owner or the owner's legal representative must apply. If the registration expired more than a year ago, you also pay the fees for issuing ownership.
Does the car need inspection?
TAMM states that new vehicles are exempt from inspection for three years from the date of registration. Outside that period, complete the inspection before applying. Dubai and the federal MOI service count the three years differently; the new-car exemption guide sets the rules side by side.
Selling or buying the car is a separate TAMM service with its own conditions. See the transfer test guide for how the ownership process differs from renewal.
Where to get the car tested
ADNOC Distribution runs the main network of inspection centres. It says it operates more than 30 centres across the UAE, some open 24 hours, all authorised by the relevant authorities; timings and locations are in its station finder and app. Our directory also lists ADNOC-licensed centres run by other companies, such as Al Masaood and Auto Central, and the heavy-vehicle inspection centre at Al Faya.
Browse verified branches in the Abu Dhabi inspection centres guide or on the Abu Dhabi centre map. ADNOC's page does not publish an appointment rule, so check the branch's arrangements before you travel.
Fees
| Item | AED | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Renewal, private or public light vehicle | 350 | TAMM |
| Renewal, private vehicle over 3 and up to 12 tonnes | 400 | TAMM |
| Renewal, private motorcycle | 200 | TAMM |
| Fresh test | 150 | ADNOC |
| Retest | 50 for the first; the second is free | ADNOC |
| Comprehensive test | 350 | ADNOC |
For a private car that needs a test, the published fees add up to AED 500: AED 150 for the fresh test and AED 350 for renewal. Insurance, fines and any retest are extra. ADNOC lists the comprehensive test as a separate test type without saying when it applies, so ask the centre which test your case needs before paying. TAMM's full table also covers buses, trailers and mechanical equipment.
Timing and late renewal
A UAE registration lasts up to 12 months. Dubai's RTA cites a 30-day grace period after expiry under the Federal Traffic Law. TAMM's service page does not list Abu Dhabi's late charges, so check them in TAMM before the expiry date rather than relying on the grace period.
The test result and the renewal are separate steps. Book the test close enough to the renewal that the result is still accepted, and renew as soon as it is recorded.
Abu Dhabi renewal FAQ
Which authority renews an Abu Dhabi registration?
Abu Dhabi Mobility through TAMM, not Dubai's RTA. Using an online renewal service is separate from choosing a test location. Confirm with TAMM before relying on a Dubai inspection result for an Abu Dhabi renewal.
Is the retest really free?
ADNOC's page lists the first retest at AED 50 and the second as free. It does not state a time limit for returning, so ask the centre how long the failed result stands. Our retest guide compares the rules across emirates.
Is the ADNOC test the same as a pre-purchase inspection?
No. The test checks roadworthiness for licensing; it is not a full condition report on a used car. See pre-purchase inspection versus the official test.
