Registration renewal & fees
Vehicle Test and Renewal Fees in the UAE by Emirate
Official vehicle test, retest and registration renewal fees for Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the northern emirates, with sources and exclusions.
Three official fee schedules cover vehicle testing and registration renewal in the UAE: RTA for Dubai, TAMM and ADNOC for Abu Dhabi, and the federal Ministry of Interior (MOI) for Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. For a private car that needs a test, renewal costs AED 540 in Dubai and AED 500 elsewhere, before insurance and fines.
Primary sources checked: 18 October 2026. Dubai: RTA inspection (454), updated 6 October 2026, and renewal (582), updated 30 September 2026. Abu Dhabi: TAMM renewal and ADNOC inspection fees. Other emirates: MOI technical inspection and ownership renewal. Fees change; confirm on the service page before paying.
Private cars
| Emirate | Test | Retest | Renewal | Test + renewal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dubai (RTA) | 170 (150 + 20) | RTA: 50 base, with a separate 20 Knowledge and Innovation line; Shamil: 70 total | 370 (350 + 20) | 540 |
| Abu Dhabi (TAMM, ADNOC) | 150 | 50 first, second free | 350 | 500 |
| Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah (MOI) | 150 | 50 | 350 | 500 |
Dubai adds AED 20 Knowledge and Innovation to the test and another AED 20 to renewal: AED 40 more for the combined test-and-renewal total, or AED 20 more for either transaction alone. MOI's renewal service lists those fees only for the Emirate of Dubai. A new car within its three-year exemption pays the renewal fee alone; see the new-car exemption guide for who qualifies.
Operator fees checked on 19 October 2026: Emarat's Shamil page lists northern-emirate retests as free within 15 days, then AED 50. Confirm your report's return conditions.
Motorcycles and heavier vehicles
| Category | Dubai test | Dubai renewal | Abu Dhabi renewal | MOI test | MOI renewal |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Motorcycle | 170 | 220 | 200 | 100 | 200 |
| Vehicle over 3 and up to 12 tonnes | 220 | 420 | 400 | 200 | 400 |
| Vehicle over 12 tonnes | 220 | 820 | 800 | 200 | 800 |
Dubai test fees include the AED 20 Knowledge and Innovation fee; RTA lists a heavy vehicle at AED 200 plus AED 20. ADNOC's page lists fresh-test, retest and comprehensive-test prices without splitting them by vehicle category, so this table does not show an Abu Dhabi test fee for motorcycles or heavy vehicles. Ask the centre. Buses, trailers and mechanical equipment have separate rates on each authority's page.
Other Dubai inspection fees
- Mobile inspection: AED 370 for a light vehicle (150 test, 200 mobile service, 20 Knowledge and Innovation) and AED 520 for a heavy vehicle.
- Classic vehicle: AED 420.
- Quad bike: AED 120.
- Trailer or semi-trailer: AED 320, including AED 150 chassis-number engraving.
- Reinspection: AED 50 for a light vehicle, light bus or motorcycle, AED 75 for a heavy vehicle or heavy bus, and AED 100 for a trailer, before the separately listed AED 20 Knowledge and Innovation fee. Emarat confirms a total of AED 70 for a Dubai Shamil retest.
- Export technical inspection: listed as an additional AED 100. See the Dubai export test guide.
Other MOI and ADNOC fees
- MOI vehicle export inspection: AED 150.
- MOI paint and bodywork inspection: AED 100. A colour change is AED 50.
- MOI card delivery: AED 15, if you choose delivery when renewing.
- ADNOC comprehensive test: AED 350. ADNOC lists it as a separate test type; ask the centre if your transaction needs it instead of a fresh test.
What these totals leave out
- Insurance, which each authority requires before renewal. MOI asks for 13 months of cover and RTA for at least six.
- Traffic fines and late-renewal charges.
- Repairs, and any retest after a failed result.
- Plate changes, card delivery and optional premium services.
For a Dubai private car, the cost tool shows each component. For the full renewal process, see the guides for Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah and the MOI emirates.
Fees FAQ
Why do other websites quote different prices?
Quotes can cover different vehicle categories, operator retest terms or optional services. Compare the same transaction and check the linked fee schedule. If a centre asks for a different amount, ask what the extra item is.
Do I pay the test and renewal in one place?
They are separate charges. The test fee is paid at the inspection centre and the renewal fee through the renewal service. Some centres also handle registration, but the two fees remain separate items.
Is a retest cheaper than the first test?
The published retest rates are lower than fresh-test rates: AED 70 at Dubai Shamil centres, AED 50 for ADNOC's first retest and AED 50 on MOI's tariff. ADNOC lists the second retest as free, and Shamil lists a free northern-emirate retest within 15 days. Return conditions apply. See retesting after a fail.
