For a Dubai vehicle inspection, start with the RTA service, choose the correct test and branch, then confirm an available appointment. Booking the inspection does not renew registration or transfer ownership. Those transactions still need to be completed separately.

Do you need an appointment?

RTA requires appointments for registration, renewal and export with plates. Its published no-booking exceptions include:

• Registration for vehicle sale purposes.
• Reinspection after a failed technical test.
• Technical checks for data verification.
• Export or transfer outside the UAE without plates.
• Dubai-registered vehicles of People of Determination and senior Emiratis and residents.
• Testing at Tasjeel Hatta.

An appointment exception is not an inspection exemption or a promise of immediate service. If selling a car, tell the centre the transaction is registration for sale purposes; do not automatically book a renewal test.

How to book your Dubai inspection

1. Identify the vehicle. Enter through the official service and sign in using a supported login. On the website, select the plate source and the vehicle; provide the requested details for a plate from another emirate. Check that the record matches the car you will bring.
2. Select the service. Choose the inspection type for your actual transaction. Do not guess between renewal, registration and export. If the correct option is unclear, ask the centre before confirming.
3. Choose a branch. Check its supported vehicle categories and services, not just the brand name. Our Dubai testing-centre directory helps compare locations; Tasjeel, Shamil and Al Mutakamela have separate branch guides. Verify current hours with the operator.
4. Select an available slot. Choose from the dates and times offered in the official system. If none suits you, check another eligible branch or date rather than assuming a walk-in replaces a required booking.
5. Confirm and save the details. RTA sends booking details by SMS and email. Check the vehicle, test, location and time, then keep the confirmation accessible. A selected time without completed confirmation is not enough.

Before leaving for the centre

Keep your confirmation, Emirates ID, registration details and payment method accessible. This is a preparation checklist, not a universal document requirement: inspection and the later licensing transaction have different requirements. Follow the documents requested for your case, especially for company vehicles or representatives. The document checklist tool can help organise them.

Bring the actual vehicle to the confirmed branch. RTA states that the vehicle must arrive within 15 minutes before or after the appointment. Plan time to find the entrance and check in within that window; the appointment is not a guaranteed departure time. Read any arrival instructions in your confirmation.

Prepare the car, not just the booking

Check lights, tyres, seat belts and obvious leaks before the visit. Investigate warning lights or braking problems rather than hoping the test will miss them. If the car may be unsafe to drive, arrange safe transport to the workshop or centre. Use the pre-test readiness checklist to spot items to discuss with a workshop. It cannot predict or guarantee the inspection result.

Private-car inspection fees

On the check date, RTA's standard light-vehicle centre inspection lists AED 150 plus AED 20 Knowledge and Innovation fees: AED 170 total. This is the standard private-car test context, not the cost of completing renewal or transfer.

Insurance, licensing, fines, repairs, retests, mobile inspection and optional services are outside that subtotal. Confirm your category and current charges. The Dubai test and renewal cost tool separates supported fee components; it does not quote a transfer package.

After the result

Confirm your email at the centre to receive the certificate electronically. RTA lists its validity as 30 days; check acceptance for your transaction before it expires. Keep the report and complete the separate licensing transaction. If the car fails, use the listed defects to arrange repairs; the failed-test tool helps organise follow-up questions. Check retest conditions with the centre rather than assuming the original fee covers another visit.

Can I arrive without an appointment?

Only rely on a published exception that fits your case. Confirm branch arrangements first; no booking requirement does not mean no queue.

What if my confirmation does not arrive?

Check your booking record and contact details in the official system before travelling. Ask RTA or the centre to verify the appointment rather than booking twice.

Does a passing test finish a car sale?
